Help please, wana make a basic 2D defended game super basic just need help

My dream is to make my dream game. I have been researching and found out that doing a few small games first will help so here i am i found this website after looking over and over for a answers to my questions. Any one who can help would be sooo greatly thanked.
(sorry about any miss spellings I might have)
I wanna make a simple 2D game waves of enemy’s come from the right in one line to try to atk my tower however i’m going to shoot them off one by one as a turret on the tower. terrain will away be the same. I wanna make it able to buy upgrades like better guns, perhaps to be able to buy a wall. simple things like that. though I have never done a game before I have made a minecraft mod and texture pack and I am very fumiyar with my computer. I am very dedicated to learning how, I rely want to do this. when i was a little younger I used to make my dream games on paper… sadly though in the back of my head i thought would it ever become more than a fun idea. That’s not what i want i will make my dream game and any one who helps is awesome. PS. I’m 15

questions:

  1. what programs do i need?
  2. got how i want it vividly in my head, just need to put it in action. Where should i start the terrain?
  3. Any tips?
Again please and thank you so much for any help given.

O and my dream game is going to end up nothing like terraria but I need to know what kind of program is used in that game because my game needs to be made of tiles like that and able to collect resources. If you don’t know that’s fine but If you do that’s fantastic. (assuming you tell me lol) I don’t need it now any way just be nice.

If you’re asking what programs you need, it’s very likely that you’re thinking about this the wrong way. I find that the question “what program do I need to do X” is often paired with the assumption that “once I get that program, I can do X” and sometimes “I can only do X with that program”, and that is very, very wrong. The tools used for building games are complex, interchangeable, and require a lot of skills and years of experience to work properly.

But to answer your questions:

  1. If you’re looking for free programs, get yourself Unity3D, Blender (for 3D graphics), and Paint.NET, GIMP, and Inkscape. Paint.NET (Windows only) for simple things, GIMP for complex graphics, and Inkscape for vector graphics. And finally, Audacity for audio editing. Keep in mind that all of these programs (except for maybe Paint.NET) have immense learning curves and you’re unlikely to be comfortable with them for quite some time.
  2. Honestly, I can’t understand your idea well enough to give any advice. Be careful and slow down while typing. Check and double check your writing, especially if English isn’t your first language. Programming is all about precision and logic; spelling, syntax, and consistency are key. I’m putting it as delicately as possible when I say that if you apply the same level of care to programming as you did to writing this post, you will not succeed.
  3. Don’t start with your dream game. I still haven’t made my dream game. You’ll only disappoint yourself when you find that it’s beyond your capabilities. Start with simpler games: Pong, Space Invaders, Tetris, Mario. Understand how these games work, and you’ll eventually be able to apply those concepts to games that are more unique.

I don’t want to discourage you, but I do want to make sure you know what you’re getting into. Making games is not easy, and you have a long journey ahead of you to make your dream game, and I really do hope you make it all the way.

I just think you are a troll. Try harder next time.

I don’t think it’s a troll. I’m just glad I didn’t have internet access when I was 15.

Indeed, that is my opinion too.

If you want to make your games using Unity I recommend you start by learning. Go to the new Learn section of the website or pick up a good book. I recommend you this:

Besides that, DallonF has already given you very good tips.

Thank you very much, you have been very helpful. I now understand I am going to have to start very basic like pong but I will try my best to learn what i need to do. If you are good or just OK at coding and what else comes with a game perhaps you could teach me on something like skype or if that’s to much to as for i’m sorry. If you could give me a list of games you think i should attempt to build before I can make my dream game
(which will be 2D but a lot to it kinda like terraria) that would be great.

Thanks for your help to

You’re 15 and by the time you’re capable of actually building your dream game it will have changed a dozen times. Don’t worry about it so much. Go try to make a clone of Pong and come back with more specific questions if/when you need help (in the appropriate section).

And this goes to all future 12-15 year olds arriving at this forum

My dream game hasn’t changed since I was 15(and it’s not even multiplayer).
