Help setting up Isometric Tilemap for 2D Project

Hello! I was wondering if anyone has experience using the Isometric Tilemap in a 2D project?

I’m following some guides but not able to see the grid in my project. I tried setting the custom sorting axis to the ones defined in the article here: Unity - Manual: Creating an Isometric Tilemap but nothing is showing up sadly. Finding videos on the topic seem scarce on youtube as well.

I assumed I need to use the swapped Z and Y isometric tilemap since it’s 2D and that seems consistent with my project. I’m trying to use it bc I have a map in my game where i’d like to snap locations to an isometric grid, so this seems like a good solution?

for now, i’m just using an overlay of some graph paper which is kinda sloppy (and doesnt get snapping)

The tilemap is set up under a Grid component in my project, yet it appears as a line and I don’t know how to get it to show properly.

Yeah that line looks weird. Try using isometric tilemaps in an empty project, maybe something in your project is messing them up.

Also make sure your grid & tilemap is in camera’s culling bounds and is not rotated. The grid lines on your image looks rotated.
