Help, trouble importing animation into unity

I don’t know if I’m posting in the right place

I have a character with a run cycle in 3ds max, the character is using a custom rig (bone tool, fins, IK,FK etc.)

the character is importing into unity but not the animation, also in the inpector, the “bake animation” option is grayed out

this is all so confusing and getting really frustrating

any help?

my rig with the controls

my FBX settings

FBX warnings

Unity inspector (Bake Animation) grayed out for some reason

Unity inspector second half

Since you’re using IK in your rig, checking the Bake Animation checkbox should fix this. Unfortunately it’s grayed out and I’m not sure why that would be.

Have you tried changing the rig type and seeing if that makes the option become available?

Are you importing directly from the Max file, or from an exported FBX? I would recommend using the MAX file route if you aren’t already. According to the Unity docs:

If you need to use FBX, make sure you are baking the animations upon export from Max - otherwise the bones will have no keyframes from the IK animations.

I never did figure out why the “Bake Animation” option was grayed out, but I got my animation working in unity now

this helped http://docs.unity3d.com/Documentation/Manual/HOWTO-ImportObjectMax.html

and thanks for the help
