My brother and I agreed on the concept for our logo for Wanilla, but we each made our own version of it, and now we can’t come to an agreement. You know the kind of stuff Wanilla does from what I’ve posted here. Which logo suits us better? ![]()

Well I dont like the text of the top one, and the bottom one is kinda typical osx, so Im with the lower one.

After a little discussion with my brother we settled on making the colors more like his and moving the circles closer together. Here’s the end result!

Why three dots? Why not add two more and make it like a W?
And I would place text on the bottom personally.
As someone who designs logos for a living, I agree.
Me too. Logos should communicate something about the company…look at the Unity logo, for example; it’s got three arrows pointing off in different directions, making a cube, which says “3D!” Since the arrows point in different directions, it’s also suggesting that you can go anywhere with Unity. It’s not necessary to be that literal, but honestly I’m not sure what the 3 dot thing is suggesting.

I honestly don’t know what the three dots represent. Maybe that all of our games have three dimensions…?
It just looked cool so we went with it. >.>
Sorry, but I get nothing from that icon either. It’s just a blank. 3 blue aqua dots. Also of note is it is completely motionless. My eye just kerplunks right in the middle.
I generally like the Wanilla name, however. Memorable. On the other hand, it sort of says, “just a little bit more than plain,” to me.
Do you know anyone who does any type of print design work? People in 2D design and advertising usually have a great eye and are already in the habit of whipping up forms for icons and layouts and such. Just a ten minute session with someone with talent in that area can open your eyes up wide on a particular need like this.
It’s always surprising to me how much different print design is from illustration/movies/games.
Anyways, my brother had a relapse (not sure if that word really works there, but whatever), and its back to the drawing board. ![]()
The name Wanilla is supposed to be the opposite of bland. Y’know, like Manilla (boring) with the M reversed, to completely reverse the meaning into Wanilla (fun). ![]()
Well the name Wanilla is dangerously close to Vanilla, which IS a synonym for bland. The drawing board is a happy place ![]()
The Mario to Wario thing doesn’t normally transfer well from what Ive seen. Nintendo can get away with it though…

How is vanilla a synonym for bland?! It taste so gooooood… ;_____;
Whatever. The name has been final for a long time. ![]()
The last logo you posted is perfect… well definitely it is good enough. And, if you own the domain name, Wanilla is a good name too.
People aren’t going to judge you on your name and logo, it is the product/service you provide that will matter. Remember, “Perfect is the enemy of good enough”. When starting a new business, it is very easy to get sidetracked designing logos, buying paperclips and building bookshelves when you should be spending time on the things that will actually make your business succeed. I have to constantly remind myself of this fact.

We don’t really have any sort of office. We’re running out of home right now (and we’re 15 and 12 years old).
So paperclips and shelving isn’t a problem.
We do own wanilla.net. Right now there’s just a teaser page up.
You guys are 15 and 12 ? Far out !
Yep, I’m 15, the brains of the operation, doing all the coding and graphics. And he’s 12, designing games, logos, and whatnots. ![]()
Cool. If you guys are that young Have Fun and spend as long on your logo as you want to. I’m just a stressed out 36 year old guy with very limited free time… ignore me.

QFA, and ditto
He who does to much of does to little.

I hear you. We were just trying to get it out of the way since we had gone for a long while on a temporary and broken place. We decided it was time to actually get a start. Anyways, we’re doing this cool 3D die (as in the kind you roll) of our separate logo divisions as a splash page. It will make people download the Unity Player of course, but to play any of the onsite demos they’re going to need it anyways, so I figure it couldn’t hurt (or maybe it could). ![]()
Well… maybe you don’t want ideas, but your description of the die gave me one.
Maybe this was your intention, but if you look at a die so you are seeing two faces at once (45 degree angle) and each face has that triangle of dots (but upside down like a V) then the two faces next to each other will look roughly like they are forming a W. Tada!
Wanilla!
