Help us squash a code-disappearing bug in Assistant
The Issue: code blocks are disappearing during/after response streaming
Hi Unity community!
We’re excited to hear that the Assistant beta has been well received. If this is your first time hearing about it, we’ve just shipped the beta version of Assistant: our new AI-powered tool integrated directly into the Unity Editor that can answer questions, write code, and run commands to help streamline your development workflow.
However, we’ve identified an intermittent bug that we could use some help to track down and fix. Some users have reported that when receiving responses containing code blocks, the code blocks sometimes disappear once the response reaches a certain length.
What We Think Is Happening
Based on user feedback, here’s what we understand so far:
- A user sends a prompt requesting code
- The answer begins streaming, including code block(s)
- Once the response reaches a certain height (after X number of lines have appeared), the code block(s) may suddenly disappear
We’re having difficulty consistently reproducing this issue, which makes it challenging to pinpoint the exact cause. This is where we need your help!
How You Can Help
If you encounter this issue while using Assistant, please report it either:
- By replying to this post with the details requested below
- By using the thumbs-down feedback button directly in Assistant (please include “CODE DISAPPEARING” in your feedback comment for easy identification)
Important Information to Include in Your Report
Please provide as many of these details as possible:
- Assistant Package Version: (found in Package Manager, e.g., 1.0.0-pre.3)
- Unity Version: (e.g., 6000.2.0a9)
- The Prompt: What you asked Assistant to do when the bug occurred
- Conversation Length: How many back-and-forth exchanges you had before the bug appeared
- When/Where It Happened: At what point during response streaming did the code disappear? If possible, note the approximate line number where the cut happens.
- Device Information: Operating system could be helpful
- Screenshots: If possible, showing before/after the code disappeared
- Any Pattern You’ve Noticed: Is there anything specific that seems to trigger this bug?
Why This Matters
Your detailed reports will help us understand exactly what’s causing this issue so we can fix it quickly. The more specific information we have, the faster we can solve the problem and improve Assistant for everyone.
We’re committed to making Assistant an invaluable tool in your Unity development process, and your feedback at this beta stage is essential to achieving that goal.
