Help us to the right Workflow

Dear all,

We need to have a little help on the right workflow for our project .

We start from NURBS models converted to Mesh on Rhino or Alias and then imported in autodesk showcase.

to group objects in macro groups and then we export it in fbx .

now we have a bigger problem, Showcase does not support UV maps and i’ve tryed to import the fbx on C4D R12, Assing 2 Materials and 2 UV Tags for each object,

but when I has imported the fbx in Unity the 1UV for texture is ok but the second one for the Lightmap there isn’t.

I’ve tryed to use the option Generate Lightmap UV on the Unity FBX Importer and works fine with small object but we have a complex tris mesh and when we try to Generate the Lightmap UV for one of our file of 25MB, Unity freeze and not respond .

We need your help to bypass the Option Generate Lightmap UV and import the second set UV from Cinema4d or another 3d software like 3DS Max, maya or other.

can you explain us a workflow to solve this issue and continue our project ?

Best regards

Massimo

Simply do not check the option to automatically generate uv’s when importing, and make sure your manually setting up the uv’s in maya/c4d/whatever - make sure you are mapping a UV channel 2, and it shouldn’t be an issue. If your still having trouble with the second uv channel showing up, try using a secondary format for your models, like .3ds or .obj - depending on the information that needs to be stored. Then, either convert it in unity, or, use autodesks free fbx converter to convert those types back to fbx, you might avoid some problems doing so.
Lastly, make sure your exporting what you think you are, double check your export options.

Yes, keep Generate secound UV’s unchecked in Unity and make sure you have two UV-Tags assigned to your mesh in C4D. Export with the Fbx 2010 format. This should work.
