Help With Model Animation! (My First Post!)

Okay, as it says in the title, this is my first post, so if I posted this in the wrong forum or whatever, I’m real sorry.

Anyway, i recently downloaded a Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess Link model and it came with an obj, DAE, and an mtl model in it. Now that doesn’t sound like a problem right now but I’m getting to that. In all games the the main character HAS to have animation at least, so I got an animation asset from the store and started using it, but, I soon found (Because I’m a beginner I didn’t know this would happen) that the model bone structure could not be animated (And at this point I was unknowing what to do…) so I just went and started doing it manually. It didn’t work… So I was wondering if I just gave you the model, maybe you guys could find a way to rig it? If not I’ll just find a way, no biggy! Model Download Link: GameCube - The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess - Link (Demo) - The Models Resource

Musicvan1999 - probably should start here before jumping into full up character animation.
Second – once you have a grasp of the inner workings of Unity - start with simple things, a cube for a platform, a cylinder for a character, a plane for the ground, a sphere for an enemy - and work on game mechanics, before going into dedicated art creation.
There is nothing wrong with downloading a model or asset that you want to use as a placeholder or a prototype object, but if you don’t know bones are (usually) needed to animate a bipedal 3D character, it’s best not to complicate things beyond your understanding with more complicated components.
Best to start small - learning tab, tutorials, documentation, forum trolling, simple mechanics, prototyping game play and get comfortable with it all.

Best of luck on your journey!

Damn, I was hoping that I wouldn’t have to go into that (I have seen a lot of tutorials but I do see your point in this being too complicated). Thanks for the help bro.

How about Mixamo’s Auto-Rigger?
