Helpful Development Tools?

(May have posted this in the wrong forum, apologies if I have) I’ve recently begun development on a new title.

However, development has felt very slow paced, which I feel could be made faster with the aid of dev tools in the form of Unity assets. The issue with Unity assets, on the other hand, is what is really useful and what isn’t.

What assets do you guys use on a regular basis that tends to generally increase workflow? (Or otherwise worded, must-have assets to speed general development)

Completely depends on what you’re doing, … Get reply in next post.!

Less forums works for my productivity.

Yeah no kidding, I find I get soooooo much more done without talking on the forums. I’ll check and read things about every hour just to see what’s going on, but I don’t reply. Replies take up most of my time, reading I just scan through things and if I really feel I should answer I will.

Honestly, I think if you told us exactly what type of project you were developing, we could give you more direct advice as to what assets could make things faster. I will list a couple things, but it doesn’t work for everybody. There are likely many more things, but they are dependent on certain project types(like UFPS is not going to be useful for much else but some form of FPS).

Playmaker-I have it but didn’t find any use of it in my current project. I’m pretty code oriented so I may not be able to get much use out of it at all, but other people have found it useful. It applies to many projects in a generic sense, but depends on the person whether or not it would be useful.

Music/Sound assets-Some music and sound effect assets come in huge packs. These are hit or miss whether they contain tracks and sound effects that fit your project, as even if you find something meant for the right “genre” it doesn’t mean it will meld with your specific game. Also, if you find something that is more designed for your genre, you might have better luck than using big packs.

ReWired/CInput/InControl-These either integrate input seperatly, wrap Unity’s input systems, or both. They add on functionality that Unity is missing, like run-time customizable controls for your players, etc… These fit many genres, but even so, there are a few things that they don’t help with, like many mobile games, or casual games players would use a mouse for.

Other stuff-There are lots of good things out there, but they depend on your game style. Gaia is good for terrain generation, RTP/Distingo are good for terrain shading, there are water packs, etc… but none of these will be useful to you if you are making a space shooter…hence why I mention if you tell us what your project is we can make better recommendations.

Playmaker and Dotween Pro are main stays for me.
Shader Calibration Scene
Mecanim Examples
Standard Assets
The Blacksmith Characters
Texture Packer Importer
Been piddling with Object Master recently.

What are mad skillz and where can I buy some?

So many great assets out there. Here’s a few we use tons: QHierarchy, Dotween, Master Audio, Core GameKit, Behavior Designer, SSAO, TextMeshPro, AssetHunter, PUN (Photon non-free version). Also killer are Dialogue System, NodeCanvas, and lots of others.

If Mad Skillz were on the Asset Store, it would be $50,000

Get Max Skillz 2 though it’s incompatible with wife 1.0

Very underrated asset, BeSync

Damn, just added that to my wishlist. $75 is a lot of money, but assuming it works like it says(and I would think it does as the reviews generally say so), it is worth it.

Have you tried it with the latest patch release of Wife 1.0?

If it was that cheap, I would be out of a job.

From my understanding - Mad Skillz is only compatible with wife 2.0 - and any patching will eventually revert back to original unpatched versions.
