I’m excited to get started with the new sprite creator. I’m trying to come up with a pipeline that allows me to animate the sprites in the project and found this asset:
Quad mesh sprite animation
It looks like a good way to start, but I’m curious: does anyone else have any tricks they have used for animating single-frame sprites quickly and easily?
Thank you for sharing! That seems like a very interesting way to animate single-frame sprites. It looks very efficient and doesn’t require too many art assets.
Speaking of minimal art assets, another way to leverage on a single frame would be to rig the sprite by adding bones and weights, so that moving the any specific bone moves specific part(s) of the sprites. E.g. Moving the leg bone moves the leg.
Ideally the sprites are in separate parts similar to what’s shown in this YouTube tutorial Fyrefly Studios: 2D Rigging in Unity without needing Photoshop.
If you only have a single sprite, some minimal movement/animation is still possible as seen in this YouTube tutorial Single Sprite Animation. Sorry that this is in Japanese but the idea is there.
Alternatively, if you prefer to animate without using bones, this is also possible if the sprites are in separate layers by moving the different parts individually and keyframing them as seen in this YouTube tutorial Nonorama: 2D Game Animation in Unity - Creating a Tiny Viking.
Hope these gave you some helpful inspirations!
