I’m curious what other home developers (who do this for a living) are planning for their Christmas holidays?
If I’m not careful I’ll end up working on Christmas day, as it is I’ll be working until Christmas eve and maybe on boxing day at some point. ![]()

Nope, I have a game to release. I’ll take some days off once that is done ![]()
I work both at office and at home; Not going to office, but certainly will work from home.
I see no reason why not, christmas is not important to me, my personal project sure it is. ![]()
I am working on my game projects and other projects… I don’t believe in taking a break… but for christmas I will be spending time with my family and friends…
I work all day, every day. I’m sure my fiance will kick me off the computer when it comes time to open presents with the fam, but I never take a day off. Not because I’m a workaholic, but because game development is what I truly love doing.
Same.
Isn’t that basically the definition of a workaholic? Did you just miss a smiley off the end of your post?
As for the OP question:
I’ll always have xmas day and xmas eve night off from any work on the computer to spend it with friends and family. Ideally I like to avoid any paid client work for around a week across xmas. That’s normally not a problem since most clients have the same amount of time off too. If i’m working on my own projects, then it depends how I feel and what is happening or if there happens to be anything good on TV ![]()
In terms of client work, Ill be working everyday except christmas day.
well i went on break last week and will get back to work in mid January even thought im an Indie developer i need to focus on my life as-well.
Good to see I’m not the only one who works all hours. lol
I work everyday on projects, not necessarily Unity-related though.
I do however take Christmas Day off. I think it would be wrong to work on that day, considering how Christmas is about being with family.
Well basically I usually give myself time off between projects to regroup and figure out what went wrong.
Are you kidding? This is a great weekend to get some gamedev done. Everyone else is off being absolutely crazy at malls and grocery stores. There’s no way I could stand those places, so I can sit quietly at home and work on some stuff.
I’m just a hobbyist, but last year I was working on stuff up to and on Christmas day itself, and I probably will do that again this year. It’s a great time to get some work on my personal projects done because I don’t have anything else hanging over my head.
Last year I had Christmas Day off to do my taxes, and Boxing Day off to rework my website. Not much of a holiday. This year, I’ve already done my taxes and I don’t need to do anything to my website. I’ve got some work commitments on other peoples’ projects this year, so I will almost certainly work on my own project right over the holidays. I do have a back injury at the moment, though, so it’s unlikely I could have done the family Christmas thing even if I wanted to.
No time. The only time I give myself off is Christmas Day. (I’ll probably still put an hour or two in though!).
I actually find I work more when I’m not told how long to work and more motivated. Ironic, eh? If I was working a 9-5 job I’d probably get two weeks off for the holidays.
I am the same, When im told when to work, It just doesn’t happen!
You guys work too hard, haha. I’m going skiing for a week. Or I guess I could call it research for a skiing game ![]()
working on the scripts on my game i will take a break for a few hours but for is my job my family and most important at all game design
I do take holidays, and some days I do just not work, but I guess thats the joy of not having a 9-5 job. Im heading snowboarding actually on feb the 3rd for a week
you know it seems to be a popular sport for developers. Most clients Ive worked with have said they snowboard/skii. Odd.
