Hoping to make a game with different height tiles, screenshot inside for better idea

Are there any tools out there built specifically to enable easily building a game that looks and functions like that?

In 2.5D? It’s just geometry with an orthographic camera.

In 2D, you need to be a little more clever, and I’m unclear of any existing tools. You’ll need to browse the asset store and see what’s available.

It’s almost entirely artwork for that style. Any tools for it will be the same as for other 2D assets. The term typically used for it is isometric.

Yeah, I was feeling that the game behaviour that would require a jump or fall animation when leaving an edge, or rules to prevent walking up over a cliff from below would require some clever programming, as the BG would just be art.
