Hello,
my project has reached the beta-phase and i want to make it accessable for my testers. Apperently many people do this by using the free service of dropbox.
I, however was unable to set things up to work right. When searching the forum for post concerning this topic the solution was alway to have the files inside of the public folder and link to the .html. Since my account is fairly new it no longer has a public folder at all. When I tried to link to the .html with the share link option, I was shown the source code instead of the page.
My question is: How can I host my game and link to it properly?
Thanks in advance.
Regards Lockstep
edit: It is possible to create a public folder even if the account was created lately.
well if you put it on your public folder and you right click on it then you can click on copy link then paste it so people can download it, now this is mainly like hosting a download of a build and so on. you can’t use dropbox as a server or anything like that for people to connect to if that is what you mean by hosting
new accounts have a public folder too, and that’s the only way to give everyone a public link.
Nope, as far as I know Dropbox does not implement the public folder for accounts created after beginning of October. I’m not sure if there’s a solution for this, you might still share whole folders and link to them, so possibly Dropbox extended the functionality to all folders but just needs some more setup.
I recommend to have a look at the Dropbox docs. Might give you a solution.
Thanks to everyone for their replies.
After digging through the help pages of dropbox i found the solution. There is an option for creating a public folder even if your account was created without one. But it will come with the security concerns which were prior to the removal of the public folder. Guess i’ll have to add a theft security to my unity file.
