Join the SMITE developers at Hi-Rez Studios, as they talk about their experience and give advice for breaking into the video game industry.

The short version of the talk being, quote: “Create something. There you go that’s it, it’s that easy.”
No, seriously: The certification is a plus for a job application. The answer depends on the country and area you are located. There are tons of job finding pages.
I’m honestly surprised by that because last I heard the certification doesn’t cover anything more complex than what you would see in the Unity Learn section.
So far I’ve yet to see a single job advertisement asking for Unity certification.
I wouldn’t call it a negative yet. I’ve not heard of people missing jobs because they were certified. But a shipped product is certainly far more important then certification.
If I had to throw out a completely random guess it would be that the ones who are looking for Unity certification are doing so because they lack someone knowledgeable enough in Unity to weed out those who aren’t capable of doing their job or because they are receiving too many job applications to process in a timely fashion.
Like you said it isn’t a negative, but I don’t see it as a positive either.
For starters, and I don’t mean this in a mean way, if you intend to work for a company that primarily speaks a certain language you will want to become better at that language. Just as an example if you applied for a company that was primarily English and you showed the level of English you have in your post, you would likely be turned down for that.
Second, build a portfolio. You will want at least one game that you have seen to completion and release.
There are jobs coming up now asking a for certification as a prerequisite.
I would expect if you had a masters degree you can get away without Unity certification. ![]()
Preferred is not a prerequisite.
They didn’t exactly specify what the masters degree needs to be in. ![]()
