How can I record what is happening in the scene then converting it to an animation

I’m trying to simulate something breaking apart so then when a player walks through a trigger, the object breaks apart, i’ve tried to access all of the objects rigidbodies, but I cant. please help.

I know this video ^ is long, but it is a very complete tutorial on how to work with animations.
