How competitive is the Asset store for Low poly models?

I’m a bit curious, planning on making some stuff to get me started on the market, to be frank I’m a bit overwhelmed with how many Low poly/handpainted assets there are, and they mostly seem to come in packs. One dungeon pack of like 700 assets for only $40, like, holy crap, that’s like $0.03 per asset.
Is it even worth attempting to fit into the market, because it kinda seems like there isn’t any room left for new comers.

You’re unlikely to get rich off the asset store. Making and releasing an asset is a whole lot of work. Personally, I do it to build my skills and to interact with the community. I make about as much from two hours of work at my day job as I do from a month of proceeds from the asset store.

You have to do it for reasons that make sense to you other than the money, like building up your portfolio AND getting a trickle of income.

yeah, for me I’m just looking for a way to earn some pocket cash.

I think there is more need for higher quality assets. You can charge more…maybe fewer customers, but Quantum Theory’s Rome pack is one of the highest selling items and it cost more than most model packs on the asset store.

There seems to be a dirge of low poly stuff, much of it more for mobile games.

One thing I’ve been looking out for that I’ve yet to see is a modular hand painted town set. Something like 3DForge’s (awesome) Exterior and Interior kits, but with hand painted textures.

Also, customization seems to be popular as well. I know myself personally right now all I look at is stuff that is modular (buildings, etc) and/or easily customizable (UMA, etc.).
