How difficult would it be to make a Virtual Table Top for cards, with no experience?

Just a simple 2-D VTT, it would have card manipulation, basically you would be able to do anything you could do with cards in the real world like turning them, shuffling, moving them in various ways, etc. It would also have a deck editor and a card store to buy cards or packs.

I thought that it may be too complicated and it would be best just to hire someone else to do it, so i’m looking at alternatives.

It would entail learning everything you need to build it … that how difficult

Why dont you have a crack at it as a learning experience ? In the end it depends on your required time frame to complete your goal. Such a system could be engineered in many different ways. Just be aware a proper framework which promotes store purchases and switching the decks based on purchases etc is not going to be achieved in a few days.

If time is a concern then you should rather hire somebody with experience as you mentioned.

Check your FB. private message. I showed an example concept.

It depends on how fast you can pick-up Unity to do the task.

Just have a go with Unity.

Check out the asset store and online for card game examples.

Start simple, and build up.

With the new 2D toolset it should be quite easy to get some cards appearing.

But are we talking about months, years, what?

If you have no experience, it might take you, maybe, one or two years to become proficient.

For such project, the work is 50% artwork, 50% coding. Do consider getting qualified artist and qualified coders. It would take proficient developer around ~ 3 months of work.

Like I said check the asset store - http://u3d.as/content/draw-it/poker-pack/2kF

But it will still take time and effort to make the working game you want.
