How do Apple review games?

I am working on my first ios app, and I’ve read so many bad things on the review process that I want to know what to expect.
Anybody know how Apple review games?
Do they play the game for a long time to test all the levels doesn’t contain anything not safe?
Do they verify all graphical assets in some way?

Or they just play the first level and check the image you provide them?

For example I think sexy costumes like Dead or Alive (http://cdn.segmentnext.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/dead-or-alive-5-ultimate13.jpg) could make for some nice IAP or reward but I read it’s a hit or miss, depending on the mood of the reviewer.
What if these are unlocked only at later levels? Will they check everything?

They probably check more than the first level, but they probably don’t check every single level in the game. You can ofc try to “cheat” the system to pass the review, but be aware that they can and do delete your app from the app store if they later figure out you are doing something against the TOS.

Just select the appropriate age rating and you’ll probably be fine with sexy costumes.

But I read that even with the correct age they may be rejected.

And I just read that even Play store is starting to ban them :frowning:

Depends on so many factors I imagine…

For example a game I published a while ago; it was a arcade game (endless) with really nice art, they played it for 8 seconds and then approved it.

They use scanning software to pull all textures out to view immediately, their software scans generally, anything human readable from text to images, and for libraries or code that shouldn’t be there.

Then a human will play it for a bit, mostly to get a feel for it being legit or not, and in line with the description.

All that’s checked against their vague “we’ll know it when we see it” ruleset.

If no issues, it’s passed.

Thanks Hippo, good to know.
I don’t plan to insert anything against the rules but something in a grey area(which seem very broad since they are so vague), so I’ll better place it carefully to avoid problems.
