I’m trying to click and drag gameobjects to my scripts and each time I click one the Inspector changes so I cant drag to the script. Anyway to stop this or recognize a long click vs. a fast click?
There’s a little “padlock” icon in the top right of the inspector window. You can use that to lock the inspector window so it doesn’t change, which will make it easier to drag things into it.

Also note that if you’re only dragging one item at a time, you shouldn’t even need to lock the inspector. The inspector window shouldn’t change until you release the mouse click. So, clicking and dragging an object should keep the inspector having the original object shown. Are you maybe clicking, then performing a click+drag operation?
also unity 2020.1 or so, has new right click … Properties window,
which is floating inspector for that gameobject (and it doesnt close or change if you select another gameobject)
