I’ve heard that Unity rotates the view around a selected object. However if i press Alt+LMB and move, it always rotates around scene center. I can’t make it rotate around a selected object. Very annoying!
You may have 2D mode selected. If so, it won’t rotate. The 2D/3D mode selector is at the top of view, near the tab. Press it to set 3D mode, and it should work again…
that work, but for some reason RMB drag is rotating around some place off in the distance, even with an object selected. how do i set the pivot to the selected object for RMB drag?
Hi, I just searched for this because I was having the same problem. It wouldn’t even rotate with Alt+LMB and 2D mode was switched off! If you look closely at the top right corner of the Scene window, you’ll see a little lock icon. If it’s showing locked, it will lock the scenes rotation. In order to be able to rotate around your selections again, ensure that it is showing unlocked, by simply clicking on it.
I’m leaving the solution here for future generations:
There are buttons on the top-left of the Scene view (current version is 2021.3.0f1, it might change in the future) named Toggle Tool Handle Position and Toggle Tool Handle Rotation. Rotation is probably set to Local instead of Global.
