I had to reinstall windows so I copied my unity project quickly from its folder to a usb stick. When I try to copy it back to the PC it won’t do anything and it won’t copy. When I copy files one by one it works but in the metadata folder there are some files with cryptic names and those won’t get copied because of syntax errors. When I try to open the project from the usb directly unity doesn’t find any projects even though it’s there.

Please help , I spent 20+ hours on it and I need it for a school project.

TL/DR : Copied whole project to a usb stick now I can’t copy it back and unity doesn’t find any project on the usb because the project consists of folders and folders

You can try to create a new project, and once Unity has created the project folders, Close Unity, paste all files inside your Assets folder into the new project assets folder, and open Unity again.

Create new Unity project and copy your Assets folder which is in usb to new project. Copy just Assets folder. All your data in this folder and copying it not problem but copying your metadata folder.
