How do i sell my game.........

Hi , How do i sell my game world wide.

Like publish it to big companies etc…?

Write to them with a proposal. I should warn you, though, that big companies are very picky and as an indie you have virtually no chance. You have a better chance with smaller companies like Freeverse and Ambrosia. You may want to just distribute it via internet yourself…you’d have to do marketing and promotion, but on the other hand you get to keep nearly all the proceeds and you don’t have to worry about anyone telling you “no”. I sell Fractscape online and the sales have been very worldwide indeed; probably at least 20 countries represented so far. If you want to license the system I use, see this topic.

You should also check out The Casual Games Manifesto.

There are also options like e-Junkie for selling digital goods:

You’ll need a merchant account with Paypal, 2CO or some other processor in order to collect money.

Your easiest paths for “global reach” are to either (a) work with existing portal sites and submit your game (you make money off of ad revenue sharing), or (b) make and distribute games for the iPhone/iPod touch. Those two channels avoid too much publisher-related hassles and red tape and will let you get your games out there in the fastest and easiest manner.

If I made a game and wanted to send it to apple to get it made into a game for an i-device would I be able to do that or does Unity not allow people to sell the games they create?

o_o

Wow. First, Apple won’t make your game for an i-device. You have to do that. You then submit that to the App Store and await their approval. This will also require that you have an Apple dev license (which costs $100).

And of course you can sell your games made with Unity. They even have a handy little button that allows you to “Build for iOS”

Erm… i think some of you need to take a step back start at the beginning.

Forget using a publisher… that’s the thing of the past. The new era has arrived of digital distribution.
I assume you are a small developer with a limit budget/time for your games.

You can submit your game to the following…

Steam
Desura
IndieCity
BigFish Games
Gog
… plus more…

They take usually a 30% cut. But worth it as they handle all bandwidth, payment processing, and they have an established user base.

Really? If you’re going to revive a 3 year old threads, at least pick one that’s interesting…

Wait what happened to the thread I was in? I swear there was a thread about Apple censoring games on the gossip forum, now I don’t see it…

this is an understatement.

Someone that comes in with their 1st post and a question like that is a troll, you guys know that.

Not surely, might be 12 years old or something.

Doesn’t Unity have a stop for disallowing kids to register? And so they must be an adult.

There is a law that you must be at least 13 years old to sign up for most internet services without the intervention of your parents. Even on something as dry and boring as a computer game developer’s forum I see an overwhelming amount of objectionable language and behaviour that parents try to protect their children against.

You’d be surprised by how intelligent and mature 12 year olds CAN be.

First off, your game can’t be a piece of shit. It needs to be quality for many major company to accept it. If you do a ten thousandth angry birds clone, don’t expect good responses at all.

You don’t sell their games to Apple. You pay them to put a game you’ve already made in their app store. And there is a series of rules and guidelines they must follow.

There’s a law like that in the United States, but most websites comply because if they don’t, they risk being blocked by American ISPs.

They didn’t asked for your photo ID, did they? Come on.

As much as I appreciate the emphasis on “can”, I have to disagree. Unless they’re a savant, 12 year olds are not intelligent or mature. My respect is reserved for the 12 year olds who are aware of this fact and don’t try to pretend otherwise.

Quite some elitism by some users in this thread.

And I was one to think that online forums were just the place for asking questions, dumb or otherwise.

If online forums are not for asking about things… I don’t know what is! Next time you’ve got some question about Unity for example, ask your neighbors first and then your grandma - don’t come over here and ‘waste our precious time’…
And no, you can’t ask why someone who knows all the ins and outs of a given question and who’s time is ‘incredibly valuable’ would read through such a thread and then spend the time and effort to complain at other people for simply asking something that this particular complainer already knows the answer for.

I would suggest that everyone of us, even the most elitistic ones, have at some point been clueless snot-noses who’ve asked a ton of stupid questions to get this far. Some of us have probably been treated like the scum of the earth by other elitists when we’ve been asking questions - I’d like to ask if it’s really that mature to spread that kind of behavior.

And no, google doesn’t always come up with a straight answer quickly. Sometimes it’s much more preferable to ask from the forums - if none asked these questions on the various forums, there’d be nothing to be found on google in any case.
