I have been a huge fan of the game clash of heroes since its release me and my friends spent countless hours playing that game and a sequel is no where in sight nor is there a game like it so like many great people before me I would like to make an upgraded version of the game myself, I am a newbie to game dev so if the community can guide me towards the right direction it will be appreciated greatly thank you.
Well you study the game, you write a GDD (Game Development Document) this is a lengthy document that has all the details of the game, mechanics, the controls, the art style, every detail about the the game. Then you use that as the blueprint to make the game. I can’t tell you how to make that specific game because I never played it, but I would not be able to on here if I did because it is too much for an answer here. I would have to write a GDD, break down all the things that need to be coded and how, making games like this takes years, it’s not like you can just easily recreate a game that is already out there. You could make this game and release it and not worry about copyright infringement provided you use your own characters and story. Game mechanics can not be copyrighted but there could be trademarks or patents, but that is rare.
