lets say i have a big map. now i want an NPC to walk around in a small area. (around a house for example).
how can i do that ?
i read a few tutorials and watched a few Videos but i dont understand the concept. when i try to create a navmesh it selects everything in the Scene and includes it.
what i want to do is this - create a box (50m x 50m) define that as nav mesh and let my npc walk within this area … then i want to create another box (80m x 80m) place it somewhere else on the map and let a different NPC walk within that area …
thx for you answer - i allready read that. but its not really helpfull.
i have a map 5km x 5km … filled it with trees, houses, cars, and so on … now i want an NPC to patroll around a house for example. but what i dont understand : how can i do that ? how can i define a small area ?
when i follow the manuel or the tutorial : the complete Scene is selected with everythin in it. i dont Need a navmesh for the whole map … i only Need certain Areas … and i cant just deselect everything because there a hundreds of objects on the map …
cant i just define a rectangle for example - define that as nav mesh and use it for my NPC ? (of Course with walkable and not walkable ares within that rectangle ) …
i guess i am too stupid then … i dont understand it …
i put a square on the ground … put an NPC on it … and all i want is to create a navmash for that square…
i selected the square and baked it … but unity adds everything it can find like floors and stairs and so on from the complete scene …
i watched tutorial videos on youTube … but they all show a tiny scene where everything is selected (which makes sense for such a small area) … but if my NPC is only allowed to walk within a 25m x 25m radius it doesnt need a navmesh of the whole 5km x 5 km scene
So that probably means you have everything (floors/stairs) marked as navigation static (Static flag) - make sure only the plane you’re interested in has that particular flag set - and then re-bake the navmesh.
