Hi everyone, how do Unity 3d models handle UV maps? I’ve made this 1024x1024 skin in Gimp 2.8 and I’m not sure if the meshes in Unity 3d will use it correctly.
There is no reason, Uvs are the basis of 3D engine actually…
Also texture size doesn’t have any effect on the Uvs since Uvs are from Vertex info on your model and between 0-1.
Just import your model into Unity, set up a new material with your texture to finally drop the material on your 3D model to see if everything wen fine.
I don’t have a model, I only have a skin.It has two separate parts within the images one for top and bottom. The other for the left and right sides. I just tried attaching it to a cube and it doesn’t work. IS there a way I can make the cube’s uv map work with this image?
You need to UV map your model the way you want in a 3D app.

Can this be done with any of the models preset within Unity like the cylinder or cube?
Nope, would have to be done in a external modeilng program (blender or others if you can afford),
The main question remain on the fact how you can create a texture before to know the 3D models will look like?
O_o…
