How do you do your lights?

Hi,

I’m often having trouble getting light to behave the way I want. I usually want to light every room separately, or have only a few areas really dark. The point lights bleed through walls if they don’t have shadows, but it doesn’t seem viable to have several shadowcasting lights in a scene. Spotlights would work if they were orthographic. Directional lights (with cookies) would work if they had a falloff. I’d like light to behave sort of like they did in the 2.5D days, where each polygon had a defined light value. More exactly, I want to be able to define light room by room, and have this show up on the character as well. How do you get your lights set up?

Have you seen the beast lightmapper ?

I was going to say that you didn’t understand the question, Zomby138, but you’re right. Beast creates shadows for you even in Free. So lights won’t bleed through your geometry if you bake your lights.

Example:

Top one is before I bake. The bottom one is after I bake.

Use different layers for different rooms and have the lights only affect the appropriate layer (plus the character layer).
