Hey guys. I’ve learned a lot in the past 3 days working with Blender (I’m not changing, at least for awhile). I was wondering how long it would APPROXIMATELY take to develop the skills I need to start creating monters such as Giants and other magical creatures. I understand that it will take a LONG time, and it is nothing short. The thing is, is that I have not found any tutorials that has to do with making monsters with Blender. I am willing to learn. Any tips? Thanks!
Foofy, “monsters” covers a lot of possible shapes and sizes - from green blobs to those creatures fron the Alien movies. You might want to try this series from cgcookie by David Ward:

I can’t really tell you approximately how long developing skills will take. This is based on so many factors its not even worth a try to estimate.
What I can tell you is to not wait for the skills needed to start. You just start creating those things such as monsters and giants and that is how you will develop the skills.
Do a nice google search for character modeling sheets and start by box modeling other peoples creations. Eventually, you will feel comfortable enough to make your own creatures. Stop waiting, don’t expect skills to be thrown at you by the end of a tutorial, and just start doing. It’s worth it. I promise ![]()
A rough approximation is that it takes 10.000 hours of training to master something. In character art you always learn something new all the time. If you really want to become a character and creature artist the best tipp I can give you is: Don’t rely on creating something entirely in 3D Software. Learn by any means possible and keep on doing it. Take drawing classes. Model someting yout of real clay. Study anatomy guides. Read and watch different approches by as many artists and in as many different media as you can get.
Making something in Blender alone takes knowledge in the program. Making it look good and believable takes knowledge about the character you are creating. Two sides of the same coin.
Awesome and fair answers. All of you helped a bunch. Are there any special things, methods, or tools that I should learn and practice more?
use cg cookie.
learn how to make a
1.a gun
2. a car
3.scene
4.person
5.a creature from only a 3/4 view
that is the rough order of learning. Make sure evertything is the best you can do and iff you can add textures, details, clothes and a background.
