Hey guys, so im making an open world game(like gta). So i already made my characters, The vehicles. The weapons. I also already written the story. How much percent do you guys think i am to being done? I just want an estimate. Please no negative comments. Thank you in advance.
If this is your first game you’ve set your sights very high. I would suggest making something small and building on it incrementally. It’s going to be extremely discouraging to work on this with the big picture in mind. Also the concept of an open world game is very vague and it usually takes exactly as much time as is allocated to the project since there is always more stuff you would like to get in and you just end up making drastic cuts near the end. It’s really impossible to give a number because an open world game could very well take any amount of time if you never stop adding things to it, it’s all relative to how grandiose your plan is.
I will say 0%. No offense but having story and graphic material doesn’t make a game at all (most games do not have any story or a very simplistic one).
Try to do a prototype of your game with a simple implementation of your gameplay mechanics. After that you will be at about 5 to 10% of your game.
Piece of advice: for a first time, forget about making an open world game. It is highly difficult. You can still make great games without it.
