How hard is it to get a license to make Xbox games with Unity?

I’m asking for my course, as I don’t have a PC that will run Unity myself.

I would imagine you would need to contact microsoft about that. As for “hard”, isn’t it the responsibility of your course?

I’ll have a word this week, we’re currently working on a Boulderdash type game, and if possible I’d like to make it for Xbox One with achievements, as an Indie game.

I believe you can already do that with Unity (or simple titles) without such licenses: Tips and Tricks for Building for UWP and deploying to Xbox One - Unity Engine - Unity Discussions

This is just for playing it on the device and isn’t optimal or anything, for small tests. Not for selling.

My understanding was that you needed a legally registered business for both Microsoft and Sony. You may have a better chance with Nintendo as they don’t have any indication on their public sign-up page that indicates they care if you have a business or not.

I have just emailed my course and sent them the link to the Xbox developer ID page.

I’ll see what they say.

The course tutor says to speak to our Unity guy tomorrow about getting the license.
