How many licenses are we allowed to pick up for free?

I already had an iOS license. I just picked up two more Free/iOS/Android ones, with this free promo. I figure, this will stop the problem of running out of licenses, and having to go a weekend without using Unity, after I’ve forgotten to unregister machines. There’s surely some limit to this. Has anybody at UT thought this through?

There was a minor panic in the sales department yesterday as they saw people pick up tens of licenses each. Please don’t do that, we can see who did it and recall the licenses if it wasn’t done in “good faith”. Getting a few extra licences that you may actually need sounds perfectly reasonable to me.

They limit it beetwen 1-4 at the moment.

Free licenses? What? Where? :stuck_out_tongue:

Or do you mean that the limit of registered machines was raised?

Unity is giving away the basic (android/ios) licenses for free at the moment.

i cannot stop laughing.

Was this announced somewhere?

Where is the download link?

Ah, I see it was announced on Touch Arcade, and the link is just the Unity store:

Hello, I have Unity PRO and iOS Pro License where I work, and we wanted to hav the Android Basic for free. Do we have to register a new license or is it possible to upgrade our current license?

thanks

You can upgrade. Click the Upgrade button on the Store page and enter your current licence code.

In that case, I picked up an extra iOS and android licenses as I’ll be getting a mac for school. Figured I’d do that just in case.

Thanks Moonjump… I feel very silly now… the Upgrade button is very big and blue…

Uh what, why does Unity give away these licenses for free? Is this some kind of trick?

It’s not a trick. It’s a marketing technique.

I tried upgrading my old Unity Indie key with iOS and Android licenses, it added it to my account but the key itself is considered as invalid so I added a Unity Free key with iOSand Android licenses. I hope that me taking two licenses each won’t make Unity Team revoke them

Although I’m not ready to use it quite yet, I am tempted to grab an iOS license for future use, to go along with the Android license I already paid for. However, I find myself unsure whether to create a new license for it, and add it to my current license. I will soon have Unity on my Desktop and Laptop, and if I end up using the iOS license, I’d want to install it on whatever 2ndhand mac mini / Hackintosh VM that I end up using for porting to iOS. However, that’s three computers I’d want it installed on, and Unity has a limit of 2.

The obvious solution is to use a different license for Android and iOS, but if/when (when, hopefully!) I get a Pro license I’ll be a bit stuck as I’ll only be able to apply it to one of them.

Its says free till april 8th, does that mean I have till april 8th to get my free license and once I get that free license it won’t expire? Or does it mean the free version I download will expire on april 8th and stop functioning?

It means after April 8th you’ll have to pay for the licenses again.

I love Unity

I just saw this myself on twitter. Thanks Unity.
