How much does publishing to the app store add to your ipa file?

Hi,

I was building my app using xcode and checked out the ‘estimated app store size’ in the archiving section.

Im stilling at an esitmated size of 50.2mb. When I build for ‘ad hoc deployment’ I get a file size of 43.4mb

Is the additional 6.8mb the average bump up in megabytes is should expect, I really could do with getting an extra couple of mb of room to shoehorn in some more music.

Also, how strict are apple with the 50mb rule? could I say have 50.5mb and get away with a cellular download?

Thanks

Our game built into ipa file was 37,5MB and Xcode estimated that the size would be 46MB on the App Store.

The game is now on App Store and the size there is 43.4MB (SpinCraft).

I guess that Xcode estimates a bit larger size just to be sure.

Xcode gives an estimate, it is not exact. You may be lucky and get under at 50.5, but I would look at doing some optimising to be sure.

I went through a similar process when the limit was 20MB. What finally got me under was removing the unused characters from my fonts. The font textures ended up half the size. My extra large font that was only used for the score and title ended up a quarter the size.

The 50MB rule is a hard limit. It is done automatically.

Thanks for the info!
