How much is Atari worth?

Obviously Atari is doing bad, but just how bad? I know they still have their IPs like asteroids and alone in the dark.

They filed for bankruptcy over two years ago. Wikipedia claims their staff consists of ten people.

I might have to reference another post here:

This equation precisely defines Atari’s exact worth:

I worked for Atari for a while in a previous incarnation of theirs (but not the original). It felt as if there was at least some attempt at the spirit of Atari, but I haven’t really felt it this time. Hopefully one day we will see the Atari name flourish in the manner it deserves.

Remember that those IP’s come along with a lot of baggage.

Only a few years ago Midway sold for $10k, but that also came with some enormous debts.

Like that they no longer own (at least) one of the original arcade franchises - they sold Battle Zone to Rebellion.

It was very sad when Midway shuttered, especially for someone like me that lives in the Chicago suburbs. While the indie scene is doing ok, there are only a handful of small/medium studios left in the area. Back in college, I remember interviewing for an internship (didn’t get it) and walking through the hallways and the pictures up were like a museum of my favorite childhood games (NBA Jam, NFL Blitz, Spy Hunter, etc.).

I’ve always wondered if Japanese consumers find the name “Midway” offensive…

Actually, in a Chicago sense the two aren’t related at all (and Midway Games was based in Chicago). The first use of the term here was for the Chicago’s world fair in 1893 (the site of the amusement section was called the midway), long before what most people associate it with. Also the Chicago Bears the local American football team are nicknamed the “monsters of the midway” and one of our two airports is called Midway Airport.

Oh yeah, I know. I used to live in Chi-town. One of my two favorite cities in the world, in fact. I was just wondering if the name ever caused them issues from misunderstanding the name.
