How much this graphics costs to create?

Hi there,
as a programmer I do not have much experience with graphics so I do not know how much time it takes to create.
I would like to ask how much money cost to draw one of these characters in similar quality.

That’s called an illustration. I would suggest posting in the Commercial Work section under : Job Offering and ask for quotes. People will PM you with the prices and you can get a good idea what is expensive and what is a fair price.

$4

It depends. If you manage to find somebody who’s willing to work for really cheap? Maybe $250. In most situations, you’re looking at $500 minimum. Artists spend a lot of time honing their skills and, depending on the complexity of the scene, a lot of time on individual illustrations. Shop around, look at portfolios, and ask individual artists about their rates. Some charge per-character, some per-environment, and some on an hourly rate. There’s really no simple answer here.

By ‘creating’ the character, do you mean modelling it or having it fully rigged for animation?

My mistake. I mean to paint it in Photoshop, just an illustration. It would be for a 2D adventure game.

I beat your special christmas price with my special price of $3

Ahh, the old Fiverr switcheroo.

It costs however much the artist charges.

This person knows what they’re talking about. That’s a pretty good guide.

Find the artist and ask how much a comission of that quality would be.

I don’t usually open my work for anyone with a wallet (because I find that strangely like prostration) but I would imagine something like that would have be done on a commission of a few hundred. It varies greatly and typically digital artists are too proud to flog it off to the highest bidder. Most of my friends who work in preproduction would either be working as part of a team, or pro-bono based on an IP. To be fair to us though painting is about being creative, so if I was commissioned for a set of pieces you’d be looking at discussing sums after the work is complete.

Someone who says “$200 per composition” is likely in-experienced in the industry and while they may be an amazing artist, their work model is uncommon.

His question was “how much would it cost to draw one of these?” which is very much a commission question rather than a project one. He didn’t reveal it was for a game project until much later.

3D model mapped and rigged? Expect $500 per character as a minimum.

This is going to be a hijack, but slightly related…

Lets say you get your illustration of a character, whether from buying, creating it yourself, etc. what is the workflow involved in animating this character to create a sprite sheet? Do you have to draw/edit each frame of the animation like a Disney cartoon?

I’ve been googling all morning and I guess I’m not hitting the right keywords or something, I’ve seen some little programs for animating pixel art but I’m wondering what techniques and applications artists use for more complex 2D games.

I was pointing out my experience in the industry. I’m an artist and that is how we usually operate.
If you were to “commission” painting you generally consult an artist first.

How it works for me is exactly like this (when i’m not on at a prepro studio) “This is the premise _____ . I need 15 preproduction pieces by thursday. Cheers.”
And thats it. No “You’ll get 3 grand USD” or anything until after they are delivered. Although 3 thousand is a pretty standard fee for 15 compositions under schedule.

You mean you first do the job and only talk about money after it’s complete? Maybe I understood wrongly, because that sounds supercrazy to me _

Is the game 2D or 3D?

If you are making 3D game, it would be better if you focus more on the 3D models, game-design and environment than on the concept art. Most of the humans models are the same and during development, you have to create many - 30 or 40 different NPCs. Did you get the character description and story-telling right for each significant character?

If you are going to use illustrations and videos for cut-scenes, consider making scripted cut-scenes with terrain, models instead.

Do you have a game-design and an over-view of the first 3 levels what the game should be?

Well, yeah. Thats what I meant. There is an element of trust but remember I don’t usually do $3,000 of work without know exactly who and what its for.
