How much would a 3D Artist charge for this?

So this isn’t really Unity related, but it is game related.

I want to make a mod for Skyrim, a big one. And one of the parts for the mod are 18 new weapons (all melee).

Basically I want to know how much I would be charged for 18 simple, yet high-poly models. Which are also to scale with the game. Also is there such a thing as per model pay?

Thanks in advance.

P.S. Please don’t tell me to put this in the Nexus forums, or the elder Scrolls forums. Because I put the same question on everything I could think of. Yahoo Answers, Skyrim wiki, elder Scrolls wiki, Nexus forums, and bethesda forums.

This is my last hope, as I know from experience it is a very active community.

Why don’t you ask in the job offering section? Simple but high-poly makes no sense here. It’d only be simple and high-poly if it contained a lot of spheres, cylinders, and arcs with a high degree of precision. I’d guess you’d pay $200 per weapon if the 3D artist didn’t have as generic stash of them that they could use for you.

For 200 USD/weapon you can expect pretty high quality. Weapons are not hard to model generally, and a lot of people like them thematically, I think you can go much lower than that.

There is a Work Offer forum around here somewhere, go write a small description, and ask for offers. If all the offers are too high for you, you can decide to not do it after all.

Unless you want the models to be needlessly high poly, aka badly optimized, that doesn’t really make much sense.

Cheers.

Thanks.

This is what I meant: a simple model, like a cylinder connected to a sphere. But I want both of them to have a high poly-count (be smooth, and not like the models in RS).

That is a stupid thing to do.

You should consult with an experienced artist. If they think that primitives + high poly count = better quality then you should not consider hiring such a person.

This was just a first stab at it, but I took a shot at the cylinder + sphere weapon. It’s super high-poly at 67,070 tris. I promise you’d be hard pressed to get much more high poly for this simple a shape!

I attached an FBX for free. If you’re interested in hiring me for my services, I’d be happy to make more weapons for you!

It seems I wasn’t clear enough.

Have you seen the Skyrim models without the textures. They’re almost as bad as the ones from RS. And I just don’t want them to look like that. I don’t want the textures to create the illusion of the model being well made, I want it to BE well made. With smooth edges and curves.

And when I said a cylinder connected to a sphere, that was just an example. And it means the opposite of a full on Project CARS quality models.

Welcome to the Skyrim modding community where if it isn’t 4K by 4K then it isn’t quality. :stuck_out_tongue:

If the player will only ever see the weapon models with textures applied - why are you setting silly unneeded requirements for the weapon models?
Seems that - if textures on a mid resolution mesh accomplishes the required illusion needed to portray the weapon, more polys and less texture detail is just a waste of your money, and the artists time - and processing power for the engine.

I believe what you want to ask the artist to create is mid resolution weapon models, with detail textures extracted from high resolution sculpts.

Never thought about it that way. But nothing is a waste of an artist’s time if they get paid for it.

Also, not to be rude or anything. But your profile pic sort of looks like a shooting penis… And you are from Virginia… Interesting. xD

If you want AAA quality on par with stuff that is in vanilla Skyrim or better, including textures and making the data usable in Skyrim, then I would estimate at way above 200$ per weapon, if you hire a professional artist that doesn’t live in a country with extremely low cost of living.

Go to http://polycount.com . There are lots of great 3D artists that would be able to fill your request.

Bizarre that I see my crack about an ‘Android Lollipop’ deleted as presumably offensive but these other more insulting posts are deemed acceptable. Moderator bias.

They were probably just brainwashed by Shia LaBeouf when they were deciding which one to delete. xD

There were like “should we delete this less offensive one?.. in the background “JUST! DO IT!””.

Take a look at this. http://www.mikejamesmedia.com/3d_catalog_info_x32.html

It’s simple, doesn’t have the window, or any real detail except for enough to distinguish what it is. Now search up “poly art”. Then you’ll understand.

You can have a sphere that has about 20 polygons, and it will look like minecraft’s attempt at something other than cubes. But when a sphere has 5000 polygons, then it’s a different story. Yet both are simple, and all you have to do is press a couple of buttons as boom! The program creates it for you.

Well you have your answer: you can’t put 50K guns in your game and expect to have any headroom for the rest of your game.

Please use the reply button, cause I have no idea who you’re talking to (I presume me). Also I don’t understand the sentence at all. xD
