How simple is it to compile the game for different platforms?

Hi guys,

I’m new to this world and I’m seeing which game engine to use and Unity looks pretty nice, so my question is:

How easy is it to go multiplatform using C#? Is it just coding it once and exporting it for different platforms like Android, Windows, iOS, Linux, etc? or is there something more to do?

Thanks

Hi kyrax80,

When building for different platforms it is quite straight forward, some platforms such as android require you to download an SDK(Something that tells Unity how to build for that platform) but others don’t. At the end of the day, there are some aspects of games development that you just don’t think of until you encounter them on different platforms. UI(User Interface) is a great example of this, When building for Windows a button may take up 10% of the screen. If you have an Android or IOS device around you, have a look and try and imagine a button that is 10% of the screen, it would be virtually impossible and quite annoying to try and press that button.

So with mobile development UI needs to generally be scaled up to fit the user experience. So back to your question, yes, technically it is easy and straight forward to build to different platforms but your game design should support that choice. Good luck and all the best.
