How to attach user input to only move model's hand?

Sorry if I’m not phrasing this correctly, and sorry if this is not the forum to post it in (if so, where should I look to ask this?).

I want it so that, if I move my mouse around, my character’s right hand will wave around in the same way. In essence, attach his arm to my mouse’s input.

Is there a way to do this?

I’ve been successful in modeling/rigging/animating a character in maya, and getting that to work in Unity, but I have no idea where to start on this.

Any help is appreciated.

Hi there!

Have you checked there - I just went through all of them today, once again to refresh my memory. Good stuff there.

If you haven’t even started with Unity animation, it’s bit hard to give short and exact answer as things are bit everywhere if the system is new to you - but in general you can try reading about LateUpdate and scripting rotation animation.
And if you come from Maya and are familiar with Maya rigging then you can do similar stuff as simple 2 joint IK via scripting mecanim Humanoid rigs in Monobehaviour scripts.
