I have a dialogue window in which scrolling text appears one character at a time, similar to what you’d see in many RPGs. My goal is to have certain gameplay-critical words in the dialogue window get highlighted in a different color. Example…:
“The door is locked. Use the Room Key?”
…in which “Room Key” is a highlighted color. Ordinarily, I would use text markup to achieve this effect (e.g. “Use the Room Key?”
However, in the case of the dialogue window that scrolls characters one at a time, this doesn’t work, because the markup depends the entire string being present to apply its effect correctly. When only half the characters have appeared, the window would display something like "Use the
