How to do voxel styled damage?

Thi might be a weird question but how would I go abouts creating a 3d model that would be based like a bunch of smaller cubes so when a object hit that part of the model some cubes would fall of? I’m not expecting a full tutorial jst alittle guidance the right way since I’m having trouble finding any tutorial on it.
