im upset. i see work from people like Leepo and Sophie H ect. and they have these beautiful scenes with shadows and stuff.
Well since im a beginner mine looks bad. no shadows. no cool shaders. Nothing.
So if there are any tip on how to touch up my game i would be happy to have them.
Well, firstly shadows are a Pro Only feature. Really there’s no easy answer for this. Study 3d modeling, study composition, study lighting, colour theory, particle effects and Unity in general. Also if you had pro version you could use some image effects, which can be nice (but costly on performance). The best thing to do as a beginner is focus on making fun games, not sexy looking games, after all a sexy looking game that’s not fun is about as useful as a painting.
Edit: You can embed images into posts here on the forum, just upload it first to something like picturepush.
I did a search for Sophie H and got porn, I did a search for leepo and got lots of Asian photo album pics…
Anyways, lightmapping, custom shaders, great textures, time, effort, planning, love of what they’re doing, commitment, realization that it takes a lot of time, not rushing, experience, studying, asking the right questions.
Nah, time, energy and skill is what it takes. Can’t think of any projects/games right of the bat, but people are doing really fine-looking things with Unity Free.
Are you sure you understand the impact of correct lighting, shaders and texture settings? They go a very long way even without realtime shadowing.
EDIT: Ah, I am pretty sure Sophie Houlden uses Unity Free, being a poor student (I think she still is studying?) and all.
Very true, and in the case of many famous celebrities these days, still brings porn thanks to shouldn’t-have-been-released-but-really-glad-it-was-homemade-sex-tapes.
And then some days an accidental search term of fate, cruelly hands you this…
