Hello everyone at Unity forums
Well, this is my very first post in this forums and I´m looking for help. I come from programming and esigning games using Torque Game Builder and it seems that it will be extremely hard to learn to do 2D games in a 3D environment. So my question is if somebody has instructions or links talking about how to make 2d games using Unity 3d. I´m using the Unity 3D PC version. I check the 2D Gameplay Tutorial, but it doesn´t seems very useful for me since everything seems 3D. My first date with Unity 3D is a hard one, but maybe this first step asking for help will lead me to the right place to start learning.
Thanks for the help.
Isaac
Unity has no 2D functionality so you can either do it through a fixed 2D camera position in 3D (pretty common nowadays) or you alternative can check out all the threads in relation to 2D that exist on the iphone board as especially and mainly this platform is using “real” 2D
Welcome to Unity and to the Unity Community Forums!
In the future, please use the various forum sections appropriately. The Showcase area is a place for you to show off your work (hence the name “showcase”), not ask for advice or seek help in particular. I’m going to move this thread to Gossip as the general catch-all forum section.
As to your question, the 2D tutorial is in fact “in 3D” but it restricts game play to only two dimensions. There are no off-the-shelf tutorials that I know of for a purely 2D sprite-based type of game so you’ll likely have to nose around the forums as it’s been discussed quite a bit by a number of users. Take it slow, look around and post your questions, but most of all, have fun!
Thanks Tom,
In the future I will post in the right place.
I will finish my current game in TGB (hopefully this week) and then I will take the unity 3d learning as my next task.
Cheers
Isaac
Your best bet for learning how to do “2D-like” things in Unity is to search for “Zombieville”, “Sprite Manager” and “Tumble Drop”. That’ll give you a pretty good handle on the types of things you have to do.
