I am thinking of making a 3d character like a wizard something like Merlin picture of him and i want to make him in blender and then import him in unity is that possible? Please make or post a tutorial for a wizard like Merlin try to make him like in the picture.
use 3ds max or Maya…
Did you have any previous experience at modeling already , because if not this is going to be quite hard , and you may think invest into more than one tutorial to achieve what you are targeting ( and I don’t talk about the time it’s going to take you ).
if you are ready to invest time and effort and not do the mistake to want model just this for your game etc…well you can search on internet for low poly character, there is quite a lot of that kind of tutorials, doesn’t matter what application is it at first , more important is to understand the fundamental.
and modeling is not all , texturing and animation will wait for you too.
If you were thinking that with just a tutorial like “how to” you will end up with good looking model ready to work in unity etc…just spending a day or two on tutorial then , believe me … just forget , you will just end to nothing and just get frustrated, in that case ask somebody that mayeb already have done character to do it for you.
If you want to learn and have enough motivation then take your time , spend lot of hours on tutorial and practice but don’t try to do a Game ready model right away cause you will also get frustrated eventually.
Just don’t rush on things.
good luck
Here`s a small tutorial for modeling a human. You should be through in a few minutes: http://www.3dtotal.com/ffa/tutorials/max/joanofarc/joanmenu.php

That tutorial is okay but I definitely wouldn’t use it as the end-all be-all for modeling characters because it has several problems. These techniques are good if you know exactly what you want but a lot of the time I think its helpful to, for the example of armor, make a blobby thing to begin out with for shape and then gradually add details so you can experiment with the design if you want. Also, I wouldn’t recommend the technique for creating heads, especially for newbies, but that’s just my opinion. It’s way too “technical” and doesn’t have much freedom. I think its a much better idea to use a sphere as a base and gradually subdivide by creating a new edge loop across the face. If you know what you are doing, you can get topology that looks just as good and this allows for far more freedom. Like the body tutorial though, that’s pretty much exactly how I do it except I start from the chest down, which is abnormal on my part. However, the texturing overall seems sub par, I’d follow this for the modeling and not the texturing and find another tutorial for texturing. Also, definitely don’t smooth nearly as much as this, this is not a character fitting for a realtime game.
@ the OP: I sort of agree with the previous people who posted on this thread that making a 3d character isn’t that easy, and your approach seems sketchy. But, I’m not discouraging you at all. Even if you make a wizard model and it ends up looking really bad, you’ll still learn something, and that’s really the most important thing. The more you do it, the better you’ll get. If anything, I’d say go at it with guns blazing, because you will be modeling and getting your feet wet if you do and thus be gaining experience.
Of course this is not the end of the road. Everybody has its own style and favourite techniques. I linked the tutorial to show Borjan that his question is a bit too much when he is new to 3D modeling. To model a human is more the kings class, not the beginners class.
And i linked it because this tutorial is still one of the best complete human modeling tutorials out there. It teaches you a lot about the basic box and pbp modeling techniques. And it teaches you about the most important thing, the edgeloops. Once you have mastered and understood this tutorial you should be able to virtually model anything you want, from the technical point of view. And its still a must have read for every 3d artist on its road into human modeling, even when it
s a bit old. So when Borjan is still interested in reaching his goal, this is one possible road to go
Low poly is of course another, very special chapter. I would even say it is harder than high poly. Because with high poly the detail can come from the model. But with a low poly character the detail has to come from the texture. And making a good unwrap plus a good looking texture is harder than making a good mesh. At least that`s how i feel
