I am thinking of making a 3d character like a wizard something like Merlin picture of him
and i want to make him in blender and then import him in unity is that possible? Please make or post a tutorial for a wizard like Merlin try to make him like in the picture.
This really depends on how much modeling experience you have. If you have little or no experience there are a few things that can help you with getting characters.
*Use a Blender, Make Human model as a base
*Purchase a model from Dexasoft, Frogrames or others, see the Collaboration thread
*Grab this course at http://www.3dtotal.com/ffa/tutorials/max/joanofarc/joanmenu.php, they have some great low cost tutorials
*Buy a ready to go model from Evolver.com
*Look in the Blender models repository, but be careful here many are not set up for a game engine.
*Buy a ready to go model from Mixamo
*Buy the Daz model toolkit, get a model from the Developers website and use it.
Modeling is only the first part, you need to add bones and animate it as well or pay someone to do it. Characters have been my stopping point with Unity as you can waste alot of money getting the wrong models. Its my weakness as a 3d modeler.
I wana do this with Autodesk Maya
If you’ve never ever used a 3d application to model a human being then long nights full of tutorials, trials&errors and nervous breakdowns may be awaiting you, .
If this is the case and you don’t want to do 3d modelling as a hobby or as a job but just need some models for your game then the internet is your friend, also when I got started (seems a lifetime ago…) I used poser to observe and copy the modelling routines they used for low-poly meshes. You can export a mesh you like there to a program like Topogun, retopologize and get lower polygon versions for use in real-time rendering engines like Unity, rig, animate and export.
Is there any way to make a model for free?
I’m not really rich you see.
Also, wich 3d modeling programs are free and working well with unity?
PS: I got blender but I still need to learn how it works and I would like it simple, I just started a week ago with unity.
I am interested in using SFML with Horde3D but I do not find useful advice where to start. If someone has something useful for a beginner, I would be grateful.
i’ll be getting my dj license if i go with my remix of a song i did …i don’t own copyrights to the song i mixed. thats why i need a dj license if i want to publish it
as for making the wizard, i recommend using mudbox 2011. that is what im using to make my characters. Its easy to use and not as hard as learning 3ds max 2011 as a beginner… then i rig my characters i made with mudbox using 3ds max 2011
but use whatever you want> it is possible . For me, blender is harder to learn than 3ds max 2011…diff for everyone i guess
when i started a couple months ago, i used anim8or …you just have to google anim8or tutorials and your off to go… then i scored 3ds max 2011 on ebay real cheap…sometimes you can get it there cheap…same as mudbox 2011
3d max on ebay? lol!? how was the licence transfer?
works perfect … i had to check ebay every day for a good 4 or 5 months to find it and win it tho
@Ullukai- I’m sorry to ruin your day, but you did not buy a legal copy of 3DSMax on Ebay.

- What about buying software from auction websites?
Autodesk software is nontransferable. Beware of Autodesk software sold on auction sites.
@wadoman - sorry, i do own a legal copy → i forgot to mention mine is not a transfered license
I hope so my friend, but I still highly dought it is a legal copy. If they aren’t trying to transfer they’re license then chances are it’s a counterfeit copy. You may think your buying a legal copy, but your not. There is no such thing as buying a legal copy of Max for “Cheap”. Unless in certain cases your upgrading from a student license and still your talking hundreds to $1000+. I am curious how much you paid for it.
From Autodesk site:
"Don’t Buy From Auction Websites
A high percentage of software sold on auction websites is counterfeit.
-Copying or using illegally copied software puts your company at risk for copyright infringement; legal action against your company can result in negative PR.
-Using counterfeit software may lead to civil penalties and criminal prosecution."
lol, actually i asked the ebay seller how he got it and he said he hired a burglar to steal it from someone he knows and then sold the boxed software to me nice and cheap > just kidding …lol
Haha, well either way be careful and enjoy! Max is pretty awesome.
