How to make a animated small street view/scene?

Hi,
I am totally new to animation and gaming world. I have to make a small city suburban(Australia/Melbourne )view of people walking in a street, cars going(option to accelerate/stop/move car, driver view/ console), train passing by(option to accelerate/stop/move train, driver view/ console), train station, trees, grass, few buildings, traffic lights, bridge, sun rising, setting sun etc and also animated map of the area(with zooming in and out option). I have no experience or knowledge of animation and 3d objects modelling but I have a strong desire to do it. Where and how do I start. I am willing to buy pre made assets/models but still wish to learn how to arrange them together, modify them and animate them.

It sounds like a lot of work! It wouldn’t worry about animation too much to begin with, most of the work you have described could be done much easier with just code.

I would start by just downloading any free assets you can find before you commit to purchasing anything, just so that you get a feel for what you want to do, after all this project might take a while and you don’t want to spend money when you might change your perspective of unity development along the way.

Once you have some placeholder assets I would start by figuring out how you want your interactions to work, things like placing cameras inside or close to one of your models and when one of the models are clicking it switches into the camera that is attached to that model.

But you could start with any of the many aspects you mentioned. I would try to break everything down into small chunks and figure out what you want to work on first, everything in game development can be broken down into a small problem. Thankfully unity developers are everywhere and once you know the question from that small problem you want the answer to you can literally google it. I’ve never not been able to solve a unity problem using this method.

Goodluck!

What re the best sites for downloading free assets? Do we need to download in some specific format example as .objects?

The unity store is great for it, once again this is a perfect example of a problem to google, you really have to get used to doing it if you’re doing unity development. Just google “free unity assets”. The assets store is the first link. You should only need to post on this forum if you’ve already searched through google and can’t find what you are looking for. Else we are just doing the work for you

Goodluck!

Hey Sparrow,
So all I need is some free assets and gaming engine unity 3d and I can achieve my goal? Thanks for your help!

You’ll need to purchase or create your own assets if your project is a commercial product, but apart from that yes, you can create a working prototype with the unity engine and free assets.
