Hi everyone,

I’m new to Unity and i just can’t figure out how to make doors work. I have checked many YouTube tutorials but most if not all of them are too old and don’t work with the new Unity version (5.3). I come from using another Game Engine called GameGuru and the the models where in .x format and came animated. A simple .lua script was easy to do and that’s all you really needed to do. I changed to Unity because because of the limitation of the GG engine but now i’m stuck because i can’t make a simple door.

Last tutorial i tried:
[Unity 3D] "Openable Door" | Tutorial [UPDATED SCRIPT] - YouTube - every time i make and the join the Door and Body, the pivot changes to the center of the door.

I really need some help in this.

The doors pivot also stays centred in the tutorial. The trick is making the actual door a child of the gameobject that represents the joint and set its x position to half its own x-scale. rotating that joint then also rotates the door as if it was attached on its side.

At the top left of unity you will see you tools such as the grab tool and the scale or drag. Just passed them there are two more buttons, The first button will likely say ‘Center’ click it one and it should change to say ‘pivot’.

wow this. i finally figured this out. way easier than having to make animations.
