How to make a field divided on cells?

I making a cell-based game, like a “Game of the life”. I have a two-dimensional array, which contain a cells. I made a rules of the game based on it, how can i divide the plane (or other object the surface of which I want to use) on cells?
P.S. The field is a 2048x1024. I think it’s not good idea to make objects to all cells.

You do not want to do them as individual game objects. You want to build them out of some sort of cell in multiple meshes. Google on UA (or elsewhere) for “voxels,” or “minecraft” for may posts and information on how to build cells inside meshes. If your project is 2D, you will find some starter code in this answer:
