How to make a Game like Ragnarok Online 1

First, lemme introduce myself. My name is Stanley, I’m from Malaysia, I’ve been dabbling with game design but not quite serious yet, until very recently. I have decided, the game design notes that I wrote over a decade ago, and shelved it, I wanna pick it up again, and this time going in for real.

When I was 12 years old, I got a copy of RPG Maker 2003. And then we lost the software sigh. And then when I’m 13years old, in 2004, I would play around with paint in our familys pentium 4 PC, and print it out for me and my younger brothers to play as board game.
When I got to play hundreds of PC, playstation, a dozens of GBA games later, I would have an unquenchable thirst to make my game.
I would buy the Ragnarok Online Einbroch Data Book and would read it cover to cover every night, envisioning my would be game.

From 2009 until 2020 though, I would face many life’s hurdles which prevented from game making, but the passion never left me.
And now, I’m finally at opportune time to reembrace my game design passion.

I dabbled with RPG Maker 2003, XP, VX and VXAce.

But hving said that, I’m settling with Unity.

Perhaps you could tell me how to begin.

I would like to make, let’s leave business and marketing out for now, a game like Ragnarok Online 1. Where the 2d/2.5 Sprites, move and fight within 3d perspectives environment…with robust class systems, and with gathering and crafting systems like like Wakfu, and also with visual equips like Wakfu, where your avatar looks changes according to what you wear.

Tell me, where to begin

Tell me, where to begin

Unity learn, unity documentation, unity manual, unity script reference.

Not that making multiplayer games is difficult.

Hi. thanks for your concern. Do I have to be at certain level of programming capacity to start with Unity learn? I’m neophyte at coding

You can pick missing information by learning as you go, by looking things up when you encounter something new. Unity learn is targeting beginners.

Coding is absolutely the key to unlocking Unity’s full capabilities.

When it comes to coding, it might take years of dedicated learning before you can confidently code whatever you want. For me it took 5 or 6 years of dedication and University learning before I finally understood what I was doing. BUT… you don’t have to wait until you’re the grand master- you can start right now! There are a lot of things you can do with just a little bit of knowledge.

The best way to learn is by doing, but don’t be discouraged if you can’t do everything you want at first- it takes time. Just do as much as you can and then build on it.

Thank you!! Really needed to hear that experience, appreciate it !

Like any new project, you need to get used to the tools that you will have. When you be able to make some simple projects to end then you can think about something else. Big projects require a lot of time, if it was so easy everyone could do it. Anyway good luck but I don’t hear of many MMORPG written by a single person.

Hi! Thanks for your concern! I plan to invest on this creative endeavours, for my planned RPG series, by making singlehanded RPG each step which scale up in size as I draw on my said RPG series. When I’m received comfortable skillsful capacity and stable financial, I will find a way to recruit more ppl into my game making team later, and then make MMORPG  But yes, since I’m now unemployed and busy with housechore and farmchore only, I would want to see if I can make a small prototype of the would be MMO within the lore and setting and franchise of my RPG series
