How to make it so the image isn't compacted when I test it?

when I try to test my game, everything becomes disproportionate and squished up

You mean after you make a build or in the editor directly?

I mean in the editor when played using the unity remote app

would this problem be rectified if I made a build of it?

What’s your target platform?.., Haven’t used the “unity remote app” myself but I’m guessing the problem is screen resolution? Don’t think a build would do it differently…
