Oh, thats nice. I wanted to wave over to a script for screenshots in arbitrary resolution and the pause button in editor…
I would suggest building a standalone, and then recording it with a solution like:
-fraps (meh)
-Dxtory (Recommended)
-Capture Card (Recommended if you also plan on recording other things)
MSI Afterburner is free and works really well, you can capture both screenshots and video at pretty much whatever resolution and frame rate you want.
Dxtory is probably the most recommended, but if you don’t want to spend money (Dxtory isn’t that much), you could use OBS, which is mainly used for streaming but it’s also good for recording with very little performance hit.
You can also use Nvidia’s ShadowPlay, which is also very good with little to no performance hit and free, but requires Nvidia cards.
Shadowplay is great and all, but I find that a lossless format is kinda best for video capture, especially for trailers since you’re going to end up encoding more than once. Shadowplay’s max bitrate, iirc, is 50mbps. You’ll also have to likely do some colour futzing since it tends to wash things out a bit.
I just did a video last week by hitting play in the editor and recording the game view with Camtasia 30 day trial. It turned out great and Camtasia has really nifty editing options already included. I actually recorded and cut the whole 3min movie in just a few hours. Coming from a Adobe Premiere and After Effects background myself I had to realize that for small videos this workflow was astonishingly way faster.
