How to modify a mesh renderer like a normal terrain?


Got a prefab mountain used a my base terrain, but unfortunately, i cannot raise/lower it or add grass texture like a normal terrain would permit, cause it’s a mesh renderer and its material.

Is there a way to make it like a normal terrain, and modify it thus?


Short answer is you can’t. Terrains use heightmaps so work on a completely different basis to meshes. Meshes are much more versatile in terms of the kind of shapes they represent so most meshes can’t even be represented as terrain.

There are various tools for sale on the asset store that will convert a mesh into terrain, but these will all be lossy (the conversion wont be perfect and will degrade most meshes)

Thxs, would it be hard on performance then, to add multiple terrains over the huge mesh of a mountain?
