How to open a 3ds max file from Unity in a specific version

I have Max 2009 and Max 2011 installed. The project I’m working on still uses 2009. I can save a .max file from 2009 and import it into Unity just fine. But when I double click on the file in the Unity Project View, Unity insists on opening the file in Max 2011. I’ve tried changing the .max file associations with the usual Windows 7 methods, but no luck. Is there any way of forcing Unity to open a file in a specific version of Max when more than one version of Max is installed?

The only way to do it is to fix your file associations in Windows.

I know that there are some problems with Windows and it’s unable to set associations when you have multiple version of Max or Maya. In most cases I ended up just renaming “Max.exe” into something else temporarily.
