How to receive shadows on a Sprite?

I am making a board game, where the board is a sprite. I can not receive shadows on the board since the sprite renderer doesn’t have “recieve shadows” option. I can however use a quad and give a texture on it to receive shadows using “Mesh Renderer”. So is using “Mesh Renderer” is my only option to receive shadows? Or can I use sprite to receive shadow and if yes, how?


I have not tested but if you switch “Inspector” to Debug Mode; you can set “Cast Shadows” and “Receive Shadow” properties of Sprite Renderer.

(In order to Switch Debug Mode in editor; click on the icon at top of the Inspector next to Lock Icon at most right)
